Harry Maguire has expressed his delight after scoring the winner for 10-man Manchester United against Ipswich Town on Wednesday. The 31-year-old struck in the 47th minute to earn United's first Premier League win in four matches and move them back up to 14th in the table.

Ruben Amorim's side had made a disastrous start at Old Trafford. A mix-up at the back between Patrick Dorgu and Andre Onana allowed Jaden Philogene to pounce and put Ipswich ahead in the fourth minute.

United made a positive response to going behind and levelled in the 22nd minute. Bruno Fernandes' wicked in-swinging free-kick was headed into his own net by Ipswich midfielder Sam Morsy.

Four minutes later, United turned the game on its head. Fernandes' corner caused havoc inside the box, and Matthijs de Ligt bundled the ball home from close-range after Diogo Dalot's shot was blocked.

Just as United started to press for a third, they were sent down to 10 men when Patrick Dorgu was shown a red card for a high challenge on Omari Hutchinson. That appeared to give Ipswich a lift, and Kieran McKenna's side levelled just before half-time as Philogene's cross-cum-shot flew into the bottom corner.

But United went back in front after the interval with Maguire heading home Fernandes' corner. The England international celebrated with a trademark knee slide in front of the South Stand.

While Ipswich pressed to go and get another equaliser, United battled hard with 10 men and ended up holding on for a priceless 3-2 win. And after the game, match-winner Maguire took to Instagram to send a message to the United fans after netting his third goal of the season and earning the club three precious points.

Maguire said: "Match winner at Old Trafford," alongside a love heart eyes emoji and a red love heart emoji.

Amorim, meanwhile, was pleased with the grit and determined showed by his United side to grind out a win. Speaking in his post-match press conference, he said: "I think this is really important [the fact United delivered an entertaining game, well-deserved by the fans.

"The support was amazing. I felt that since the day one, they just want to see a team fight until the end, no matter what the situation, and I think we did that today. And you have that feeling of connection with the fans. All the things in the game was against us and we fight through that and it was a good win for us."
